The Book of Genesis: Overview and Introduction (Part 3)

by Brian Watts on July 7, 2019

Genesis 1:1 (ESV) “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” This sublime pronouncement forms the opening words of the Holy Word of God. It is essentially a concise statement of the doctrine of creation, which is the most basic doctrine of our faith. These words lay the foundation not only for everything that follows in the Book of Genesis but particularly also for everything that follows in God’s Word. Therefore it is crucial to state that everything depends on the first verse of Genesis.

The Book of Genesis: Overview and Introduction (Part 2)

by Brian Watts on June 30, 2019

Genesis is a book of beginnings. It tells us of the origin of all things; the beginnings of the human race and all that portrays the display of the Glory of our Immortal All-Powerful God. But Genesis is more than just a book of beginnings. It is the first of sixty-six books that make up the Bible. It is the beginning of the inerrant infallible Word of God and together with all of Scripture it is “16 God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Tim 3:16-17).

This grace of God has established itself in the hearts of the elect, by the Sovereign Power and Will of our Lord and Savior. And our Lord has given to His Church, of His Sovereign Design a Symbol that requires faith and obedience on the part of the elect, as one of the signs and the seals of the Covenant, which God in grace has cut with His people.
